YEAR OF THE QUARTERBACK?

With 4 QBs taken in the first round of the NFL draft, three of those coming within the first 10 picks, many think this is the year of the quarterback.  Also, there’s depth at the position; those remaining include: record-breaking Case Keenum from Houston, Arizona State’s Brock Osweiler, Michigan State’s Kirk Cousins, Oregon’s Darron Thomas, Arizona’s Nick Foles, Boise State’s Kellen Moore, LSU’s Jordan Jefferson, and Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson.  It’s not so much that there’s depth at QB this year (even though there is), but we saw last season in the NFL that it has become a quarterback’s league.  Players like Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Matt Stafford, and Cam Newton have taken over the game and shown that they are vital to their team’s winning games.  Have a solid run game or standout wide receiver are no longer enough to win (which is why the Lions are only successful when Stafford is healthy - they need someone to throw to Calvin Johnson!  Teams like Washington, Indianapolis, Miami, and Cleveland are seeing opportunities to build their franchise around a player that can lead them to victory for years to come.  Indianapolis has enjoyed Peyton Manning’s success for the last decade, and Miami has been searching for someone to fill Marino’s shoes since he retired in 2000.  Excited to see how the rest of the draft shakes out…maybe the Falcons will draft a good backup for Matt Ryan (since we haven’t seen much out of John Parker Wilson in camp).
